Poll #2 - Best Films of 2015 - Three vote film elimination
« on: February 07, 2018, 01:04:38 am »
Since we have seven films making it to the final round on account of a sizable plurality of votes, I figured I'd make a secondary poll to weed out the strongest contenders among the films that got three votes. Chose to throw Spotlight in there since it would've been here had I not tweaked my vote for Beasts of No Nation, which does not appear to be gaining enough traction to advance.

Brooklyn has 5 votes here vs the 3 votes in the other poll.

Plenty of people here have seen it already and chose to vote for other inferior films.

Only film I've seen in the last 3 years that I like more than Brooklyn is 3 Billboards.

The fact that John thinks there are eight films on that other poll that are better than both Brooklyn and Inside Out confuses me greatly.

I'm honestly fine if Inside Out wins.  That one actually gets better the more I watch it.  I have Brooklyn higher rated, but Inside Out is certainly a worthy winner imo.

Again, I make no apologies.

The poll should still be open. I was too lazy to close it so your picks should still factor into the results.

Which makes it better than most BP winners lately.

Aside from Birdman, yes.

Birdman still my favorite film in the past 15-20 years.

I was so confused when it won. Very unlike the Oscars to actually award Best Picture to the best picture.

Ha - I didn't even remember that it won - I can't remember the last time I watched the Oscars beyond having it flipped on for a minute or two randomly.  I do remember making the decision to leave Interstellar after an hour (I saw the entire thing the next week) to sneak into Birdman which I knew nothing about and being completely blown away by it.  I saw it the next 2 weeks after that until it left my theater.  I'd go watch it in the theater again right now if it came back.

I don't know if I'd go that far but it is probably my favorite film of the decade.

It definitely deserved Best Picture that year, though I would have essentially been just as satisfied with a win from Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash, or Boyhood. It just goes to show how fantastic 2014 was for cinema.

I still am back and forth between Birdman and Grand Budapest Hotel. Both are masterpieces in my eyes.
