Recent purchases (part II)
« on: April 20, 2016, 11:24:16 pm »
I guess this is one of the threads that got deleted in the panic. Surprised it wasn't remade. Welp, here's round 2.

Just picked up Everest on blu-ray at Wal-Mart. I was thinking of getting The Force Awakens, but I think I'll hold off on buying that for a little while, since a special edition might come out soon.

I picked TFA on Blu-ray on the 9th.
Everything is terrible.

Who even has time for Blu-Ray?  I just rent a movie on Google Play whenever I want to watch something.

Believe it or not, I used to love Blockbuster when I was younger and it was still alive.  Went there all the time before it closed down.
Goodbye!

Bought Blazing Saddles, The Thing, and The Graduate today. The sales guy tried to get me to buy Blazing Saddles on Blu-Ray for $20. I opted for the $5 DVD copy. In the end, all three films cost only $22.

DVD Master Race.

I still have a DVD copy of Star Wars: Phantom Menace (disc is currently MIA), Silence of the Lambs, and Austin Powers: Goldblum Goldmember.

I had a gift card to Barnes & Noble, so I picked up the first two volumes of John Carter of Mars for two bucks each. Also got Into the Wild and American Psycho on DVD for a grand total of $15.

Do I have to say it again?

Funny because American Psycho is cheaper on Blu Ray than DVD on B&N's online store.

Yeah... so what's your point here? If I ordered it online, I'd have the added bonus of having to pay more money for what is essentially the same product? Oh goody. I thought you were Mr. Critical Thinking.

The point is your post seems to assume that Blu Rays are outrageously more expensive than DVDs, which is simply not the case.  It's willful ignorance, ignoring that the price gap between DVDs and Blu Rays (non-special editions) are closing.  It's the Law of Diminishing Returns.  You're paying around $2-$1 less for inferior technology.  Simply put, you're not a Master Glorious Race.  That term applies to people who actually buy high end technology.  Spending $1000-2000 on a PC vs. a $400 inferior PS4.  The people who buy the PS4 are paying for inferior tech, and hence are referred to as an inferior buyer.  But unlike that example, the cost difference is far less.  DVDs and Blu Rays are coming lower and lower.  And if you don't see a difference, A) get your Blu Ray player checked or B) get your eyes checked.

Ah yes, the old "outdated technology" argument-- the last-ditch argument of the unintelligent consumer. While the price gap may not be as noticeable in regards to this particular film, having just been to Barnes & Noble, I can tell you that a vast majority of Blu-Rays for sale there fall into the $20-$40 range. Don't even get me started on Best Buy either-- they sell steelbooks for ridiculous prices right next to the $5 bargain bin filled with DVD copies of the exact same movies. Sorry, but I'm not paying extra for features I'll never use and a disc that won't even play in my laptop. As for the picture quality... that's just not a big issue for me. I own a perfectly fine flat-screen TV and the quality of my DVDs on it is stellar.

"Outdated technology." Lol. Do you buy the latest edition of the iPhone every time it comes out? When you buy a car, do you always make sure to buy the absolute newest model? The Law of Diminishing Returns has an equally valid opposite-- the Law of Inconsequential Progress. Paying a whole lot extra for a product that is not significantly better than its predecessor is simply not logical. Sure, maybe the iPhone 8 is .15 inches thinner. Is that worth an extra fifty dollars? I don't think so.

Your argument is completely retarded, but answering it would only feed that ego of yours.  I recognize that you've already made up your mind on this and since you're so stagnant about your opinion, trying to reason with you would be like trying to get John to fap.  Like I said, the price gap is closing and you're using outliers to persuade your argument.  I could go to Walmart's bargin bin right now, find 4 Blu Rays and spend only $25, which I know because I have done it.  Your $20 Blu Rays  are Marvel films or new releases, which will drop in price pretty swiftly (the new release, not Marvel, which takes a while, but considering you hate them, might as well take Marvel out of the equation).  My Spider-Man 3 Blu Ray?  $6 bargain bin.  So of course, you're just doing nothing but acting to stroke your ego.  You're like one of those kids who kept a Sony Walkman when everyone was getting an iPod.

Plus do the math with my 4 Blu Ray example.  You bought two inferior goods for 15.  I bought 4 for 25.  I actually spent less than you did on a price to product ratio (and considering one of those Blus was Underworld, I have bought even better products than your American Psycho and Into the Wild).

Bitch.
goodbye!

Ah, I see. You shop at Wal-Mart. I don't even have one of those in my county. I'm happy to pay a little extra for the pleasure of not having to shop at America's freak show. Anyway, I'll just leave you with this: If John Tyler can drop $35 on a GI Joe 2 Blu-Ray (over a year after it came out), I'm still not convinced that Blu-Ray is anywhere close to being as cheap as DVD. Oh, and the DVD total was $11. So... yeah.
