Checked out William Gibson's Burning Chrome from my school's library, to fuel my newfound cyberpunk obsession.

Hopefully it's a good book.

The Jack Reacher novels are ah pure pulp but they're quite addictive.

The next book I'll be reading in English class is F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

Finished Persepolis (or at least the first part). A well paced, gripping read.

Finished The Kite Runner.

Completely overlooked this.

What were your thoughts on it?  I remember generally liking it up to
Spoiler (hover to show)
towards the end.  Felt like forced drama for the sake of forced drama.

I think it was generally a riveting read that got better in the second half. I can see why you'd feel that way about that scene in particular, though at the same time I find it admirable that Hosseini opted for the bittersweet route. Perhaps having him stay emotionally broken the whole time might have been the better option under the excuse that trauma is still very hard to get over. Regardless, I was satisfied with the book overall.

I don't mind bittersweet endings, as long as they don't make it feel too forced/melodramatic.  IMO that's how I felt here, and it's a glaring stain on an otherwise really good read for me.  Like you said, Hosseini could've simply had the trauma linger on all the way to the end, rather than try turning the

into the climax.

Glad you enjoyed it though.

I was looking through our summer reading list, and one of the books we can read is IT (and after the discussion on September 8th, everyone who participated sees the movie together).  So looks like I'm gonna be reading it over the summer.

We'll see how I handle the 1,000+ pages.
Goodbye!

Excellent choice. Aside from one incredibly misguided scene, it's a fantastic book.
