Turned 21 today
« on: April 20, 2018, 04:03:09 pm »
You are usually supposed to say "Time flies" here, except that it feels like the reverse for me; as if every new year lasts longer than the previous one. I suppose that's good, since I get to subjectively experience more of my life, or something.

Anyway, currently spending my evening playing a shitty free game that shouldn't exist, just so that I can write a review on it in the end. In other words, much like what I was doing at the start of last year.

Happy Birthday bro!  Hope you have a good evening playing a crappy game and pulling your pud...

Thanks, it was pretty fine! And well, it's like how Tanny was (and is?) into student/amateur films and even stuff like The Gap; to me, it's the same kind of fun. Especially since I tend to specialise in RPGMaker games, and that is one of the easiest engines in which you can make a functional game. As such, it's faintly amazing to see all the ways in which people can keep fucking it up regardless: from infinitely repeating cutscenes and the ability to walk through random walls, to easily exploitable systems (best one was a text-based kingdom management game of sorts, where you could literally get into billions of debt with no consequence if you just spent the first few turns on levelling up your army's defence to ensure creditors' can't even scratch it.)

That's not even to mention the stories and "atmosphere", and the fun you can have with those. Spelling errors, plot holes, attempts to be edgy (one game let you cut off enemies' body parts during combat, including their genitals)... On the flip side, it's even cooler when you find something worthwhile this way, especially if no-one else seems to have done so earlier. Since they are all generally quite short, you don't really lose too much time on that, unlike the proper large games. (I.e. now that I have beaten DOOM, I had a choice of Endless Space 2 and Crusader Kings 2; two very good strategy games, I am sure, but spending dozens of hours on a single run is not something I currently feel up to.)
