Title: Tran5formers: The Last Knight
Post by: Diego Tutweiller on June 16, 2017, 04:21:28 pm
It's weird... I've seen almost zero promotional material for this thing. I still have a hard time believing it exists, partly because of the laughable premise, but also because these movies typically generate a lot more attention. Will this be the lowest-grossing Transformers film yet? Or will the Chinese market ensure that it's a huge hit? It's already got the largest budget (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers_(film_series)#Box_office_performance) of any of the films so far, but even so, is it remotely possible that it won't make an enormous profit? I'm guessing no.

The last time one of these movies came out, it caused one of the most chaotic periods in Rotten Tomatoes history. Cutler loved it, Dylan hated it, and Maverick (https://forum.rottentomatoes.com/topic/show/531793) and I (https://forum.rottentomatoes.com/topic/show/460853) had fun messing with retarded Bay fanboys. Sadly, Treet's legendary thread is lost in the sands of time.

Anyone actually seeing this thing?

Might catch it once they re-release it for Oscar season.

The first trailer made this honestly look pretty decent, but the rest of the trailers made it look like total dogshit. This looks somehow even worse than Age of Extinction.

Still, I'll probably see this. However, I'm not giving it my money. I don't want to contribute to the problem.

So...business as usual, then.

Two reviews officially posted on RT. Both negative. Both scathing (one's a 1/5, the other's a .5/4).

I've read a few spoilers for this movie, and this sounds like it just might top Age of Extinction...

I'll try and see it tonight.

And no one was surprised.

I can't wait to see how the fanboys justify the clumps of boring exposition in their mindless popcorn blockbuster.

According to his RT page, that honor currently belongs to Max Payne (16%), so while it's gonna be close I think this will be the new winner.

Consensus: "Cacophonous, thinly plotted, and boasting state-of-the-art special effects, The Last Knight is pretty much what you'd expect from the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise."

From what I've been hearing, there's a scene in this movie where Megatron negotiates a prisoner release with lawyers from the Pentagon...

Max Payne is one of the dumbest movies ever.  Had a couple cool camera shots, though.

It was also a really poor adaptation of a great game.

I think so too... these movies have a history of starting higher than they finish (I think the initial reviews for Trans4mers had it in the low 20s), so just a two or three-point drop should cement this as the worst-reviewed Transformers movie, the worst-reviewed Wahlberg movie, and the worst-reviewed movie Bay has directed. Pretty significant trio of accomplishments.

Hmmm... well... it had the least shaky cam and quick cuts out of all of them?

Of course... they couldn't settle on an aspect ratio (seriously... it changes dozens of times in the middle of scenes FOR NO REASON) so I can't really say the film looked good.

You talking about IMAX shots mixed with regular shots?  Because that's common.

It's in many big budget hollywood films.  Go watch the Dark Knight Rises.  It's extremely jarring there.

Apparently, they shot on multiple different cameras which probably explains the aspect ratio changes.

Gods of Egypt is honestly more entertaining than The Mummy. At least it was telling its own story and didn't stop dead in its tracks on several lengthy occasions to tease sequels.

But the sequel teases in the Mummy was just like two shots of a vampire skull and tentacles.  Russell Crowe's Dr. Jekyll played a role that helped suited the story unlike Batman vs Superman which just has Batman browsing his emails.

Dracula Untold was supposed to kickstart a shared universe, but it didn't do as well as Universal hoped. So they tried again with The Mummy.

I'll have to wait for more responses before it lands a spot on my morbid curiousity watchlist for the year. I'm still trying to catch the Russian Guardians, Monster Trucks, and probably The Book of Henry when that reaches DVD.
