  • And the path was a circle, round and round

However, Disney outbidded Comcast and keeps 20th Century Fox

People still trust George Clooney to direct things despite The Monuments Men and Suburbicon
Honestly, I don't even know whether Disney or Comcast getting 20th Century Fox would have been worse. Still hate it that Disney acquired them though.

Also, I thought Suburbicon was pretty decent honestly. Given its box office returns, I have no idea why anyone's giving Clooney another film but still.

I havenít seen it but at worst itís probably just thoroughly mediocre. Monuments Men was the same way, where it was harmless but immensely boring.

Monuments Men was one of the few movies I've literally had to hold my eye lids open with my fingers at times to get through because it was so fuc[i/]king boring.

What, you mean Disney isn't trying to just remake The Last Jedi for profit?!?

I really don't get the idiots who want to remake The Last Jedi alone. Yes, Johnson made more than a few horrible decisions, but The Farce Awakens was the true source of the rot, and leaving it alone makes no sense. Pretty much the only way an VIII episode flowing directly from TFA could have been even close to good is if it in turn didn't attempt to recycle Empire's plot points. Reducing the entire Rebellion Resistance down to 4000 people out of the entire galaxy was the single worst decision they could have made. (After the previous worst decision to reduce the NEW(er) Republic" to a single star system that gets wiped out by Death Star III.)

These two decisions, combined with the entire "B" story of TLJ, quite convincingly show that they deserve to lose. If the First Order committing an unprecedented war crime AND immediately losing their only means of repeating it doesn't galvanize the rest of the galaxy against them, and instead sees the resistance dwindle to the size of one of a dozen of third-rate rebel/terrorist/bandit outfits in Syria, then it shows that the overwhelming majority of the population STILL prefers them. It proves how terribly incompetent their previous 20 or so years were. To go from that, to the presumable victory in the ninth episode is ridiculous. I may not ever watch it, and instead settle for Rey's ship getting shot down as soon the credits roll as the true ending. (Since she literally must have taken off in sights of the entire remaining fleet.)

Anyway, the most useful part of that "remake TLJ" link above was that it exposed me to the sci-fi novel written entirely by that website's readers. I should probably make a separate thread for that, where me and Diego (and anyone else interested) could read through it, and see how it compares to The Bloodstained Lion and the like. In a way, it would like one extended RC. Sure, it appears to be a rather different setting to TBL (lol), but it should still provide an interesting benchmark.

Did you ever watch TLJ, Neville? I presume by now most people know the plot anyway, but I'm curious.

I did, on the 4th of March; I think it was mostly ignored because I posted this at the same time as Danny vs. rest of the site argument about race and casting was raging on.

Incidentally, I only found out Little Women was a thing after playing an in-development demo of a Lovecraftian isometric CRPG called Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones. There, reading that book before bed restores sanity for Humanist characters. Nihilistic ones obviously prefer Nietsche, Divine ones stick with The Bible, and I think Materialistic ones like Adam Smith. Can't remember what Occult and Rationalist ones need as their bedtime reading, though.

Keri Russell to probably play the next Kathleen Kennedy stand-in character in Star Wars Episode IX

I've been reading rumors that she's playing Rey's mother, although I sure hope not. I don't really care who Rey's parents are, especially at this point in the story.
