Keri Russell to probably play the next Kathleen Kennedy stand-in character in Star Wars Episode IX
I've been reading rumors that she's playing Rey's mother, although I sure hope not. I don't really care who Rey's parents are, especially at this point in the story.
That would be ridiculous backpedaling from ghostwriter Kennedy. At this point they're somewhat stuck because they never bothered with any rudimentary outlines, and this would just exacerbate their problem of the installments effectively retconning elements from each other.

TWO movies about the Thai soccer team cave rescue are in development.

Am I the only one who has never enjoyed one of these true story survival movies? Deepwater Horizon, 127 Hours, etc-- all boring as shit.

I feel that a lot of true story films in general suffer a bit from context (and workmanlike filmmaking at times). Some of the survival story films are no exception, though the recent ones I’ve seen that come to mind are generally competent.

Off the top of my head, wouldn't The Revenant, Captain Phillips, and Dunkirk all be considered "true story survival" movies?  I'm pretty sure you enjoyed those three.

Dunkirk is a highly fictional account that literally has no real-world characters in it. The Revenant at least follows a person who existed in reality, but most of the plot elements after the beginning are fictional. Captain Philips (which I ought to finally watch) should probably count as a character drama: the "survival" part implies direct struggle against nature, not against other people.

The true story of The Revenant guy is that he actually forgave the people that thought he was dead. I mean it was a bear attack and the dude was unconscious and had mortal wounds practically. Very little chance he would have survived anyways.

I don't count Dunkirk or The Revenant. Both are so heavily editorialized and embellished it's hard to put them in the same category as Deepwater Horizon. As for Captain Phillips, you're right. I do recall enjoying that. Of course, I've completely forgotten about it, but I suppose it was okay.

I’ve never considered Captain Phillips a survival story necessarily. Still a great film that I ought to rewatch sometime.

I’m glad there’s still life in the show. I am a bit nervous since the finale episodes for the last two seasons were good stopping points for the show, which provides more pressure for these episodes overall. That said, Filoni’s track record with finishing these shows is well reputed (assuming he’s associated with this season). Too bad it’ll be stuck behind the paywall that is a Disney streaming service.

James Gunn fires by Disney for crass tweets from a decade ago. No word on the yes man (or woman) they’re replacing him with for GotG 3.

I read his apology statement; Although one probably has to take it with a grain of salt I can’t help but wonder if society is losing the ability to forgive/give second chances if someone is genuinely trying to improve upon past mistakes - even if said mistakes are hard to defend while being innocuous overall.

Those tweets were pretty wild. I have no idea why he didn't delete them. I mean Disney is a company that he works for at the end of the day and any other company would have done the exact same thing if it were some regular employee who had those same exact tweets.
