The Decline of Modern Music
« on: May 19, 2015, 05:17:15 pm »
This is essentially a rehash of Moody's "Rant about Modern Music" thread on TG.

First off, only at the Billboard (or the People/Kid/Teen's Choice) Awards would the Rolling Stones lose an award to One Direction. Also, Florida Georgia Line and Igloo Australia getting awards makes me somber. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/bbma/6568580/billboard-music-awards-2015-winners-list
Disclaimer: I do not know if the Stones sing well live, but this is still a blow to the industry's credibility nonetheless.

The Kids Choice Awards are one of the worst awards shows. The other two you mentioned suck as well.

Beverly Hills Cop 2 is totally a children's movie, as is Big Momma's House... also, Austin Powers 3 apparently was up for 'Best Fart in a Movie".

Also, the movie Speed is rated R, but it was nominated.

And, Alvin and the Chipmunks sucks.

I don't think this is a problem with modern music as much as the selections of some awards shows. Quality modern music certainly exists.

Well, this thread isn't just about bemoaning awards shows...it's also about sharing opinions about what modern music is terrible.

About actual award shows like the Oscars, per se?

I mean a general award show thread. Maybe an Oscars thread as well.

When I arrived to RT's DVD forum, I noticed an Oscar reaction thread. I have a feeling something like that would be the case.

That's true.  The current #1 song on Billboard is actually a decent song (See You Again).

I agree that there is some good modern music, but often times those groups don't break into the mainstream.

Also, See You Again is followed by the likes of Earned It, GDFR, Sugar, and Thinking Out Loud in the top ten.

Sugar is just shallow. Nothing more, nothing less.

However, GDFR seems to only be liked because of that saxophone sample from Low Rider (After listening to the former carefully, you can hear more of the Low Rider song), and like all of Flo Rida's other songs, nothing else is memorable, for he is a hack bereft of talent, creativity, and integrity.

There has always been a majority of shitty music. I've been around for a lot of it. The past just seems better because we forget the crap acts that aren't amusingly awful.

I quite like See You Again. The chorus is great, makes me emotional every time.
