The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
U2 (War-Achtung Baby with some How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb and Beautiful Day peppered in between)
Queen
Muse
Coldplay (First four albums mainly, but especially Rush of Blood to the Head and Viva la Vida)
Mumford and Sons (No shame)
The Black Keys
Michael Jackson

Well, taking out the wheel of fortune R, S, T, L, & E bands that say more about a person that doesn't like them (Beatles, Bowie, Queen, Floyd, Stones, (maybe) U2, etc.):
1. Peter Gabriel - my most consistent number one in any non-personal category. Maybe the only artist to get an auto-buy on any new release. I don't think his standing has been threatened since 1982.
2-10 get more nebulous.
2. NIN - Loved Pretty Hate Machine, but was disappointed with the follow-up EPs and singles, and had lost faith in him by the time The Downward Spiral came out. That album. Probably the the most unified and enveloping piece of work my untrained ears have ever heard.
3. PJ Harvey - she really tests me, and if anyone says they like all her work, they're either lying, her, or both. Still, when she's on, no one can touch her. Listen to any of Stories of the City/Stories of the Sea, especially Beautiful Feeling, A Place Called Home, or Big Exit,
then if you're ready to go harsher, step back into albums like Rid of Me.
4. Oingo Boingo - it's just not Halloween without them.
5. The The - I'm not one to say a guy's voice is sexy, but if I had Matt Johnon's talent, I would have used the power for evil. December Sunlight, Love is Stronger Than Death, Infected, and Dogs of lust have been played to death by me. Sweet Bird of Truth has more meaning for the world now than it did when he wrote it.
6. Eurythmics - I listened to crap like 38 Special before the Sweet Dreams album came out. And while I listened to a few alternative artists before that, it's safe to say they changed my listening path. It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)
is a happy feel good song (which is somthing they're not usually about).
7 (tie). Love and Rockets/Peter Murphy. Strangely enough, I'm just OK with Bauhaus. Give (LnR)No New Tale to Tell or (Murphy's)Cuts You Up or Cascade a try. You'll be glad you did - or you suck.
8. Faith no More - at their best, they could top this list, at their least the could drop off it. I think that's more a statement as to their variety than their inconsistency. A Small Victory, Be Aggressive, and The Real Thing top my list.
9. Tool - Two of the most massive albums I've ever heard - but everything since has kind of left me cold. Still, those two are truly great. Forty Six and Two
in particular is required listening.
10. Beck - **** off, Kanye.

So many HMs - Massive Attack, The Police, Fever Ray (would probably crack the top ten if she had more than one album), Echo & the Bunnymen, Django Reinhardt, Fatboy Slim, Pop Will Eat Itself, and so on and so on. There's a lot of good out there.

Edit: damn, those were supposed to be links, not full-fledged vids. Oh well.
