The 2017 Golden Globes Thread
« on: January 08, 2017, 11:16:52 am »
I probably won't be able to catch the full ceremony, but I intend to compete regardless.

My predictions (The TV ones are going to kill me):

Best Picture (Drama): Moonlight
Best Picture (Comedy/Musical): La La Land
Best Director: Damien Chazelle
Best Actor (Drama): Casey Affleck
Best Actress (Drama): Natalie Portman
Best Actor (Comedy/Musical): Ryan Gosling
Best Actress (Comedy/Musical): Emma Stone
Bets Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali
Best Supporting Actress: Viola Davis
Best Screenplay: Manchester by the Sea
Best Foreign Film: Toni Erdmann
Best Animated Film: Zootopia
Best Original Score: La La Land
Best Original Song: City of Stars

Best Drama Series: The Crown (I don't know here, but this seems like a safe pick)
Best Musical/Comedy Series: Atlanta
Best Limited Series: The People v. O.J. Simpson
Best Actor (Drama): Rami Malek (I don't here, but he did win an Emmy last year, so...)
Best Actress (Drama): Claire Foy
Best Actor (Comedy/Musical): Donald Glover
Best Actress (Comedy/Musical): Issa Rae (The Globes love giving awards to newer shows, and of the new nominees this one seems to be the most assured. Dreyfus could pull a win, though)
Best Actor (Limited Series): Courtney B. Vance
Best Actress (Limited Series): Sarah Paulson
Best Supporting Actor (Limited Series): Sterling K. Brown
Best Supporting Actress (Limited Series): Thandie Newton

I'll tally up my successful results later, but I'll add my current results now.

It's awkward that they had Affleck present his own movie.

Dommy's pleasure is my mild irritance, even though I knew the TV awards would kill my streak.

Hiddleston's anecdote was pretty cool, though.

Is it bad that I've lacked any interest in seeing Deadpool whatsoever?

Hearing the typical Oscar description for a Best Picture nominee being used on Deadpool was pretty funny.

Depends if the type of movie is up your alley. If you liked Kingsman, you'll like it. If you didn't like Kingsman, you won't.

I liked Kingsman, buy I'm not sure how well it'd hold up on a rewatch. Who knows.

Yeah, I think both are better on first viewing but I really liked both so it doesn't really bother me. Honestly, watch Kick-Ass instead though, that movie's actually awesome (I think it's in both my and Tatum's top 10 all time).

10 correct!

My sister and my mom are saddened by Stranger Things being snubbed. The former especially, since she gave up on The Crown due to boredom.

Not sure where Viola Davis is going with this...

Edit: Never mind. Figured it'd be related to Streep, but I didn't realize she was getting a Lifetime Achievement award.

When she said "most vilified", I expected her to say "rich people". What was I thinking?
