The one that shot up the Pulse night club - said he was a "lone wolf" and had nothing to do with Islam before all the evidence came out to the contrary - wouldn't even mention the word Jihad or Muslim when be pressed on the issue and his erroneous assumption that this guy was a lone wolf that had no other agenda.  Then he said it was a gun issue and we needed to ban all assault rifles.  Also had fundraisers and campaign contributions directly from CAIR - which has ties to Hamas.  People here (at least in my area which is near Orlando) were PISSED for the reason I stated before.
As someone who knows nothing of these 2 candidates, all of this seems quite reasonable honestly...even if the Pulse night club shooter was part of a terrorist organization that associates with Islam, it doesn't mean much.  Groups like ISIS just use Islam as a way to push their terrorist agenda, as the Middle East is so grounded in Muslim traditions that it's the easiest way to recruit people.  But they aren't real Muslims by any means, so it seems like the dude was just trying to advocate against the xenophobic mindset that plagues much of Florida.

And banning citizens from having assault rifles outside of the military seems like a good idea to me...I literally see no upside to having them legalized.

It's odd...when someone kills their neighbor and says "I did it because he fucked my wife," nobody doubts him for a second. But when a terrorist blows up a mall and says "I did it because of Islam," everyone assumes that there's some hidden ulterior motive. "No, it's not really about religion-- it's about nationalism, and he's using religion to justify it! Of course!" Sometimes, the simplest explanation is the right one. And to me, it seems pretty logical to say that when your death-obsessed religion is centered around a barbaric warlord who murdered the shit out of thousands of people, you might be driven to violent ends. All religions can lead to terrorism; some are just more uniquely adapted to it than others.

Also, I literally see no upside to banning "assault rifles," but then you knew that.
