The one that shot up the Pulse night club - said he was a "lone wolf" and had nothing to do with Islam before all the evidence came out to the contrary - wouldn't even mention the word Jihad or Muslim when be pressed on the issue and his erroneous assumption that this guy was a lone wolf that had no other agenda.  Then he said it was a gun issue and we needed to ban all assault rifles.  Also had fundraisers and campaign contributions directly from CAIR - which has ties to Hamas.  People here (at least in my area which is near Orlando) were PISSED for the reason I stated before.
As someone who knows nothing of these 2 candidates, all of this seems quite reasonable honestly...even if the Pulse night club shooter was part of a terrorist organization that associates with Islam, it doesn't mean much.  Groups like ISIS just use Islam as a way to push their terrorist agenda, as the Middle East is so grounded in Muslim traditions that it's the easiest way to recruit people.  But they aren't real Muslims by any means, so it seems like the dude was just trying to advocate against the xenophobic mindset that plagues much of Florida.

And banning citizens from having assault rifles outside of the military seems like a good idea to me...I literally see no upside to having them legalized.

I know you don't.  We see this situation VERY differently.  And we always will.

And using the "xenophobic mindset" is one of those far-left baiting terms to try and deflect from the fact that there is a faction of Islam that is radical and that wants to eradicate us.  To think differently is pretty naive.  By NOT acknowledging, and in fact going out of one's way to IGNORE that when a situation arises is very disingenuous.  When there's a shooting, we are always looking for the reasons - whether it's a school shooting or a Senator being shot on a baseball field, we are always looking for "why?"  Was there a manifesto left?  What did they post on social media beforehand?  What did they tell there friends?  But, when 49 people get killed in a mass-shooting in the name of Islam, and you have a state official going out of his way to try and deflect from the "reason" when, in all other instances, it would be a perfectly acceptable question, then it is hypocrisy at its finest.  Nobody had a problem calling out Timothy McVeigh's reasoning for the bombing in Oklahoma.  But God forbid we call out Oman Mateen for HIS reason.  Bill Nelson was angrily defiant in his refusal to call it what it was.  And the fact that he has had other connections to shaky groups in that ilk is disconcerting from my perspective.
