A Quiet Place
« on: March 10, 2018, 10:02:19 am »
Produced by Michael Bay, A Quiet Place stars John Krasinski (who also directs from a screenplay co-written with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods), Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and Cade Woodward. A family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you.

Even the more glowing reviews I read this morning stated that the film dabbles excessively in jump scares, which was one of my concerns. Still, some dumb footage aside, Iím looking forward to this.

...my interest is back

Definitely didn't expect it to be receiving glowing reviews. Especially after the trailers which did nothing for me.

This sucker is still at 100% with an 8.2/10 average rating off of 37 reviews.  I certainly didn't expect this.  Hopefully it's way, way better than Unsane.

Even my local indie/prestige theater is showing this. Granted, itís not out of place for them to show mainstream titles to take in a bit more profit for the long run.

Yeah - I am heavily looking forward to this.  In fact, a double feature of A Quiet Place and Cock Blockers sounds like a pretty good movie day to me...

Just got its first rotten review.  82 positive, 1 negative, 8.1/10 avg score.  Pretty impressive.  Seeing this on Tuesday along with Cock Blockers.

8/10 film.  Really enjoyed it.  The concept was unique and intriguing.  Thought the detail within the story was very well thought out, and the safety set ups were well conceived.  The character reactions within the situation given were very genuine and realistic.  I identified very strongly with the father.  The acting was strong.  And I really liked how the film ended.

My only real issue
Spoiler (hover to show)
It's a bit predictable and unnecessary, though it was a bit more palpable in this film than in some others.  The monster design was great, and I liked that it felt like anyone COULD die after the opening sequence.  One of the better, more unique horror films in a while.

Yeah I bumped it up to a 7/10 after thinking about my issue with it, since it doesnít really matter in the end. Solid monster thriller flick though honestly.

Yeah I was pretty impressed.  It's difficult to do basically an entire movie without talking and have it work - so I definitely give them kudos for that...

The strength is really in the environment- the premise makes it so that every moment is really tense, and my stomach was in knots basically the whole time. That tension is just palpable throughout the whole film, which makes it a really great theater-going experience without relying too much on jump scares. Because of that tension, the movie is paced quite effectively, although one of my negatives was that it kind of felt like we were just jumping from one crisis to another without any respite. The main thing I didn't like was that

That kinda took me out of it towards the end, but overall it was still a really strong movie and a lot of fun to watch with a few friends in a crowded theater. 8/10, I'd say.

Yeah - Frank had the same issue.  That didn't bother me quite as much just because I got the feeling that it wiped out much of humanity pretty quickly - including the military - although we aren't ever really given any type of time frame on how long it took them to dispatch of humanity.  But I can see where it would be an issue if they had said "yeah it took them 6 months to take control" or something like that.  If they were completely surprised and overrun, they might not have had time to figure out a "solution".

I think I like this better than It Follows tbh - I found less holes in the story.
