Trailers didn't really impress me, but I'll hold out faith because I liked Kurzel's take on Macbeth.

I'll go a bit higher.  41%.  I think this will be one of the better video game adaptations, but of course, that's not saying much.

The Tomatometer is below the range of what I expected, but unsurprising nonetheless. 2016 has not treated Fassbender well.

Please... he earned his money.  No actor who signs up to do Assassin's Creed did it because they thought it'd be a masterpiece.

16% on RT. Consensus: "Assassin's Creed is arguably better made (and certainly better cast) than most video game adaptations; unfortunately, the CGI-fueled end result still is still a joylessly overplotted slog."

16%. *hangs head*. No more hope.

On another note, I am getting really sick and ficking tired of the inconsistency of the RT consensuses. Don't take the first three quarters of your consensus bar to talk about how the film is "better than most video game adaptations" if 84% of reviewers slandered it. Just trash it. Enough with the sugarcoating. They did the exact same thing with Prince of Persia and Warcraft.

Interestingly, one of the few positive reviews came from IndieWire, who, besides their obvious acquaintance with us, are also notable for giving zeroes to Warcraft (and Ratchet & Clank, not that anyone cares), and set off a verifiable blizzard of fanboy rage. Wonder if it means this'll actually be significantly better, or if they were simply unwilling  to deal with AC fanboys as well. (Though since most of them now just whine about glitches and microtransactions, that's hardly a worthwhile concern.)

Also, this:

David Ehrlich (who wrote the review for Assassin's Creed) is actually a really good critic.  I doubt he'd sanitize his opinions to deal with fanboys.  I think he just genuinely enjoyed the film.

Someone is taking it seriously enough to spend much of the review complaining about its anti-Catholicism.
