Beirut
« on: April 09, 2018, 06:30:56 pm »
Directed by Brad Anderson (Session 9, The Machinist, Transsiberian) from a screenplay by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Trilogy, Michael Clayton, Rogue One), Beirut (formerly titled High Wire Act) stars Jon Hamm (Mad Men, The Town, Baby Driver), Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher, The World's End, Gone Girl), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad, The Book of Henry, Death Wish), and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire, Kong: Skull Island, Death Note). Set in the early 1980's during the Lebanese Civil War, the film centers around Mason Francis Skiles, a former United States diplomat who returns to service in the city of Beirut in order to save his colleague Cal Riley from the group responsible for the death of his family.

Reviews are good so far and I like Jon Hamm, so I'll probably check this one out.

Very run of the mill movie.  Jon Hamm does a fine job and there's nothing specifically bad about the film;  it's just been done to death recently, is entirely predictable, and breaks absolutely no new ground.  5.5/10.
