For anyone who has seen this:

I'm going to be watching some combination of Mother, Stronger, and this today, but since I'm home for long weekend my family kinda wants to see something together which would likely be Blade Runner based on timing and others' interest. Personally, I have zero interest in this movie, but my question is whether someone (me) who hates the original has any shot of liking this. Keep in mind that I really like Villenueve (Arrival was my second favorite film of last year, Prisoners is in my top 100 and Sicario was a solid 7.5 or 8), but my current thinking is that the original is more influential on whether I'll like this than my opinion of him as a director.

Please be honest rather than just saying I'll love it cause you loved it; I gave Blade Runner (Director's Cut) a 2/10 after all.

It's like a Nolanized version of the original, and the worst moments are quite reminiscent of Snyder, so you ought to love it.

Okay, I'm going to demand an explanation for this one.

Also, 8/10 film.

Well, as someone who has never "gotten" the original (I don't hate it like Cutler and Paasche do. I've seen it twice but it hasn't clicked. I hear Mr. Stuckmann says that fourth time's the charm though) this one won me over. My biggest problem with the first is the terrible Harrison Ford performance at the center of it so I found it refreshing that he actually acts his heart out in this one. He's not in it for very long but it's his best performance in forever. I was worried that Ryan Gosling would repeat his blank slate Only God Forgives acting but he's quite good here. Understated for the most part but emotional when needed. Lots of acting with his eyes which he's good at. His character arc is terrific and emotionally rewarding which surprised me given how cold I find the first one. Visually, it's the best film of the year. The score's not as good as the original but what is?

If I have a complaint it's that I think that the last 20 minutes are a little rushed. It's a slow paced movie that suddenly throws a lot at you at the end. But to be fair, if I'm suggesting that a 3 hour long movie should have been even longer, it just shows that it was good.

I'd give it an 8/10

Well, I would if it wasn't so sexist.

If this movie disappoints me, I will literally cry.
Is the film's box office going to do that instead?
Everything is terrible.

Alrighty then... really, it is possible that Paasche will like this more than the original. While I love the first movie, I won't pretend to not see the flaws that others do (though a 2/10 is simply ludicrous from any perspective). This one has a more emotionally resonant arc for its protagonist, and better detective work, so it's quite possible that it'll appeal to a lot of people who didn't love the original.

Honestly, after seeing and enjoying mother! I'm definitely more open to giving Blade Runner another shot (I'd definitely watch a different cut though). I don't think I would've enjoyed Mother 3 years ago, and I suppose it's possible I'm more open to films based more around their themes now. Doubt my perspective will change a ton but still.
