This year's Sundance/SXSW horror darling currently has 100% on RT with 32 reviews and 89 on Metacritic form 13 reviews. Toni Collette has had some very early awards chatter for this A24 horror release, meaning that everyone here except Dylan will love it. He'll probably have general audiences to back him up.

‘Twas a joke since this is from the same studio that distributed The Witch and It Comes at Night.

Oh - crap - didn't know that.  That tempers my enthusiasm a bit.  Not the same director though, so I might be okay.

Got a D+ on Cinemascore. Classic A24.

Might see this today.

Russian reception stays strong...and it's playing nowhere near. I might see "Summer", a film about Victor Tsoi (a native of my city, of Korean descent, who became USSR's first rock star, and died in a car crash just before it collapsed.) It's getting a notably good reception for one of our films. Though, there's also the matter of the director being under house arrest.

9/10.  My top movie of the year so far.  So pumped afterwards (luckily it was the 3rd of 3 movies I saw today).  Can't wait to watch again, knowing how it ends, to see if the clues were there earlier.  Highly recommended.

Trying to decide if I should catch this or First Reformed first. Both are going to be emotionally taxing watches that I’m unsure I have the fortitude to attempt a double feature for.

I have no idea how good First Reformed is.  But, if you're looking for a double feature, I highly suggest Heredity coupled with Upgrade.

This film was pretty intense.  Definitely somewhat lacking in originality, and is plagued by a number of haunted house/possession clichés.  It overcomes that though with the quality of everything else.  Acting was great, music was great, camerawork was especially awesome.

Going with a 7/10 for now. Even though it's one of my least favourite styles of horror, I would still recommend this.

That's a pretty big grade from you for a movie of that ilk.  I was absolutely floored given what I thought I was going to be getting from the trailer.  Had that "House of the Devil" moment that dropped my jaw.

Probably my favorite horror movie since The Witch. Toni Collette needs that Oscar now. I see what Bread means in that the story has some familiar/predictable elements, but the execution of it all yielded such a visceral reaction from me that I overlooked it. Definitely a contender for my favorite of the year, at either an A- or an A.

What were your favorite scene(s)?

Not a huge horror fan in general but this came to my local theater so I'm definitely gonna try and see it.

I’m curious how you’re going to react to it. Try to go in as blind as possible.

Well, my favorite scene was the "shock" scene in the car (I don't want to give anything away).  But you know the scene I'm talking about.  I loved the ending.  Immediately thinking back afterwards, I love the scenes when she is in group therapy (there's A LOT of info revealed in those scenes).  There really weren't many scenes I didn't like.  Obviously, I thought it was far, far superior to The Witch in basically every aspect.  I'm hoping to see it again this weekend.

That’s definitely a highlight. I was also very partial to
Spoiler (hover to show)
. That was such a masterful display on Collette’s part, especially given her performance in the rest of the film. I did enjoy the ending even if it was more conventional than the rest of the film.

Edit: Also props for the
Spoiler (hover to show)
. Despite some of that being spoiled in the trailers, the scene was really intense. Plus, I think her initial reaction is what being in a nightmare is like.

I know absolutely nothing about it other than the fact that it's an A24 horror movie and has some sort of twist so I'm pretty excited (haven't watched any trailers or anything).

What did you think of the ending? I’ve seen some people criticize it for being a bit more conventional than the first two acts but I thought it was executed very well.

It actually wasn't TOO spoiled in the trailers for me because it was so out of context in comparison to the movie.  So it was almost a completely different scene than the trailer showed because it was taking place in something so disparate from what I thought.  But yeah, I also loved those scenes you "spoilered" out.  Really I loved the entire film from start to finish.
