Becuase there are some genres I don't like? I'm not saying that there isn't a possibility that the movie will be good, or that there's no possibility that I'll like it, but I tend to dislike musicals and from what I've seen this film probably isn't going to change that no matter how much I liked Whiplash.

I have no idea why you're continuing with the BvS thing, but yeah, there was little chance you were going to like that movie. All that's doing is re-enforcing what I'm saying.

Look, the difference is that I was discriminating against a specific franchise. You're writing off the film solely because of its genre. The two are not the same... no more than watching an hour of True Romance is the same as watching all two and a half hours of BVS.

Diego, Paasche doesn't like musicals, so I don't see why he would be hyped for this. It makes sense. I don't like gay porn, and if someone told me there was some really awesome gay porn out there, I still wouldn't go out of my way to watch it because it doesn't appeal to me.

Okay, you brought up the BvS thing, not me. I never criticized anything about your experience with that movie, nor tried  to make a comparison between your experience with it and mine with La La Land. I will add (again), however, that you ould have been perfectly justified in not seeing it/giving it a chance given how much you despised The-Film-That-Must-Not-Be-Named.

I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of musicals either but I still think this looks really damn good.

You're comparing a sexually explicit video to a harmless musical.

I know what the point is, but even though it's funny, it's not a very good comparison.

Yeah, I understand that. But it's one thing to say a movie looks bad because you disliked its predecessor, or even because the trailers and reviews have been subpar. The way you're describing it though, it sounds like you don't care about the film despite the overwhelmingly positive reaction and intriguing advertising, solely because it's a musical. If I'm wrong about that, fine. But that's what it came across as. And that seems weirdly close-minded to me, especially coming from you.

Oh, okay, I get why you were confused now. I think I've done a poor job representing the fact that I don't think this movie looks bad, just that it doesn't look like a film I will personally care for or enjoy. Also, it's not just that it's a musical, but rather much of the praise has been about how it's something of a love letter to old Hollywood musicals. For a guy who doesn't much care for them, that praise is much less meaningful. Finally, the advertising was not, for me personally, intriguing.

This makes sense. Kind of like how The Artist was a "love letter" to silent films, a genre that, although interesting, did not merit resurrection. That movie was not very good... and it's the main reason why La La Land worries me somewhat. The two seem like they could end up being comparable, and not in a good way.

Yeah, that comparison popped up in my head too. I didn't actually mind The Artist myself, but it wasn't particularly special or memorable and definitely wasn't deserving of Best Picture.
