Last Days in the Desert
« on: April 28, 2016, 08:15:07 pm »
Is anyone else here looking forward to this? Basically, it's a retelling of Jesus' 40 day fast in the desert with Ewan McGregor as both Jesus and Satan that comes out on May 13th. It seems to be promising - for once we have a movie associated with religion that doesn't immediately pander to the Zodiac Killer's voter base, and a film that wants to actually present a challenging account of the Gospel - If it really is good, I think people may compare it to The Last Temptation of Christ. Also, Emmanuel Lubezki is the director of photography, so even if it's garbage it'll at least look pretty. On a side note, though, I'm surprised that this movie's managed to avoid controversy, what with McGregor not being Middle Eastern.

It has an 89% on RT so far.

Here's a trailer if anyone's interested:

Huh, hadn't even heard of this honestly. Seems interesting, although I doubt I'll see it in theaters.

Not sure if I'll be able to see it in theaters either. It's slated to be a limited release, so I'm not sure it'll reach any nearby theaters.

With the whole controversy thing, I believe it depends on two factors.  First off, a majority of people accept the image of a Euro-centric Jesus and no one has an absolute vision of what Christ is like.  Many account him as beautiful while philosopher Celsus referred to him as a short man and quite ugly.  Granted, anthropology has since proven that Christ was in fact not white skinned.   But so little people care about the truth.

The other reason is that this film is relatively unknown.
