Pacific Rim: Uprising
« on: February 25, 2018, 07:41:28 pm »
Directed by Steven S. DeKnight from a screenplay credited to himself, T.S. Nowlin, Emily Carmichael, and Kira Snyder (previously penned by Travis Beacham, Guillermo del Toro, Zak Penn, Jon Spaihts, and Derek Connolly), Pacific Rim: Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Jing Tian, Adria Arjona, and Rinko Kikuchi. Ten years after the Battle of the Breach, the oceans have become restless once again, but the Jaeger program has evolved into the next generation for the PPDC. However, something has reopened the Breach for the Kaiju and a Jaeger has gone rogue. Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, rises up to stand against the evolved Kaiju and the rogue Jaeger to prevent humanity's extinction and preserve his fatherís legacy.

I learned about this film by seeing a trailer through my neighbor's window.

The second trailer makes this look like the heir apparent to the Bayformers franchise. Maybe Scott Eastwood will save it?

I keep seeing this complaint all the time and I donít get it, because I donít recall any of the following popping up in the trailers:

- Gratuitous handheld shaky-cam
- Excessive quick-cut editing
- Needlessly harsh color oversaturation
- Random aspect ratio changes
- Cringey and offensive racial stereotypes
- Women being objectified
Everything is terrible.

4.5/10.  Not a good film by any means, but it was certainly better than all of the Transformers films except maybe the first.  The weird dude fucking the monster brain was both funny and embarrassingly bad at the same time.  Not a film I'd suggest and definitely a step down from the first, but not the worst thing ive seen.

Do you still stand by this statement?
