Cassian being introduced was natural, as was the duo of Chirrut/Baze.  They had their own solid reasons for being introduced. Bodhi Rock was somewhat forced, but not enough to detract at all, especially since I liked the character.  The dialogue was no worse than any other Star Wars film, and I thought the dialogue as a whole was pretty good IMO.  I thought the film had consistent cinematography too.
It's actually Bodhi Rook. Not Rock. Rook.

I beg to differ.

Star Wars was released theatrically in the United States on May 25, 1977.

I definitely don't know who "Bodhi Rook" is.
He's the Imperial pilot who's inspired by Mads Mikkelsen to leave the Empire. He then allies with the Rebels and comes up with the Rogue One callsign.

10/10 comment.

I'm honestly surprised that people liked this movie. While the overall story/plot was actually pretty cool and well-thought out, the characters in this movie are just so paper thin that it feels like nothing matters. For a movie like this (where you know the outcome) to work, the audience needs to really care about the characters. Sadly, that never happened at all in this movie. Only Jyn (spelling?) was developed in any meaningful way, and she wasn't very well developed in her own right, as she goes from Andrew Milito levels of caring about the rebellion to Robert Neville in the span of about 10 minutes. The other characters generally just kind of show up, join the rebels and receive no meaningful development. Ah well.

It surprises me that people like this too. Saw it with four friends, all of whom love Star Wars, and they all hated it. There was not one single character with well-defined traits or any level of consistency.
I saw it with my family and we were split two and two, although the pretentious side of me wants to note that the two big film fans (myself and my dad) were the ones who disliked it, basically entirely because of complaints about the characters. I suppose this probably has to do with me not being much of a Star Wars fan, but it does confuse me that people who really care about film, like all you guys on here who liked it, can like this movie and ignore how shallow and vapid all the characterization was.

But somehow this isn't a problem when BvS or pretty much all of Nolan's films are concerned? OK.

Neville inserting himself into every situation is so hilarious in hindsight.  He puts an effort in antagonizing people who liked a past film he didn't.

Also, between this and Nightcrawler, is anyone else wondering if Riz Ahmed has Danny Oh Syndrome?
What does Danny Oh syndrome look like? If Riz Ahmed have Danny Oh Syndrome, does that mean that his characters get fucked over repeatedly in everything (also true in The Night Of)?
2017 makes this theory a bit flimsy, partially due to Riz now having an Emmy. There's still that joke attempt he made at the Oscars though...

To a degree, and the possibility that he may or may not be expressing his desire for the embrace of death through his work/hobbies.
Thatís called suicidal thoughts and depression. Mental illnesses are a thing, Kashmir.

Yeah, traveling is really depressing for us. It's sad to see how you people live.

Are you referring to the five months of waist deep snow or the meth epidemic?

And I don't know... I've never been to California but I just have the image of the residents being all depressed alcoholic degenerates who engage in Eyes Wide Shut orgies every Saturday night.

Funny thing is, I love the cold, so CA isn't all that perfect for me. As for the depression... well, maybe it's different in Danny's neck of the woods, but NorCal is a lot more down-to-earth than LA. The substance abuse up here is mainly marijuana-related, and our Bacchanalian lovefests have a strict 20-participant limit.

I believe Cutler coined the original term around the time between the BVS embargo lifting and your unrequited love situation. The term signifies an almost comical degree of bad luck (such as the example with Riz Ahmed's major roles), with angst being a potential characteristic as well.

I'm aware of that, though that specific portion was a joke.

Your state is by far one of the most insane places I have ever visited. There were towns in the backwoods that looked like they'd been untouched since the 1950s. All the gas stations were easily half a century old. It was like finding some lost Amazonian tribe that hasn't had any contact with modern civilization.
