I thought I'd try something different from our usual poll on this one. Once the film is released, we can take this poll down and put up a new one for our scores.

So, another one of these awful, awful films is going to hit theaters in December, and if my calculations are correct, this could be even worse than Rogue One. Even the moronic fan community of Imgur has started to turn against Disney after seeing how horrible the world-building is for this movie. In a decade or so, I think these Disney films will be more reviled than the prequels.

Here's the trailer for this loathsome, festering pile of malignant corporate ooze.

If we're going the pessimistic route, maybe. I'm hoping this goes below Rogue One and continues the downward trend the franchise is taking.

Nah.  If critics could enjoy that heaping pile of garbage Rogue One, they'll probably love anything with Star Wars slapped on it.

I may be overestimating the backlash these films are receiving. But if this turns out to be a blatant remake of The Empire Strikes Back (which I think it might be), I don't think the fans are dumb enough to overlook it. Could be wrong though.

I hope this is received so well it becomes a serious contender for Best Picture, just to piss Diego off.

The optimistic echo of my youth is doing battle with my inner cinephile. The Last Jedi is likely the last Star Wars film I can anticipate in some form, and should it fail to match my expectations... well, we'll always have Empire Strikes Back.

I probably do need to rewatch The Force Awakens though. I haven't done so since it was in theaters.

Say whatever you want, Danny. It won't save you when the critics destroy Justice League.

It's funny that you think I actually expect Justice League to get anything above a 40% on RT.

Well I'll be considerably more calm than when you see The Last Jedi being critically lauded for "breaking new ground".

For a Disney Star Wars movie directed by Rian Johnson?

You know that the only way that would happen is if they actually did something ballsy, original, and different.

Do you really think that if this ends up being an Empire remake, people will still love it? Serious question here. Perhaps I still have too much faith in the average moviegoer, but if this ends with Luke saying "I am your father" to Rey, I can't imagine people will let it slide.

I doubt this will retread ground already covered in Empire.

TFA rehashed A New Hope, yes, but here's the thing: they knew they needed to give the series a good shot in the arm and give fans something that looked and felt like the Original Trilogy after they were sorely let down by the prequels. Plus, it was the start of a new trilogy. They had to reintroduce old characters to a new generation of fans and reintroduce a sci-fi/fantasy world that wasn't seen in theaters for a decade, so I can understand why they played it safe. Since they already got the beginning out of the way, I see no reason for the filmmakers to continue rehashing previous installments with this and Episode IX.

However, if they do, I'll be pissed, especially if they reveal that Rey is a Skywalker which I really don't want to happen because that would be the most boring, predictable, cliched thing they could do with her character.
