Saw this today. It's one of those film where I wanted to enjoy it more but it was too uneven plot-wise for me to truly recommend, even if it is visually stunning and has some fun moments. The performances are generally adequate as well, though they are somewhat let down by the script. Probably a C+ as of now, though I will say that I wouldn't have a problem with a sequel as long as they didn't go overboard with exposition among other things.

Besson is very hit and miss.  The 5th Element and Lucy are both excellent and timeless but from what little I've seen, I'm not sure about this

This was my first Besson film so I can't quite gauge whether you'd like it or not, but maybe given that Valerian's source material was a notable influence on The Fifth Element would be a potentially enticing factor.

I'll certainly watch it some time but being a Streamer probably not at the flicks (as we Brits sometimes call what you guys refer as a Theater!)

Just saw it on what was opening day here. The theatre was only about a third full anyway. The film made me think deeply about many things:

* The seeming inevitability of age-related cognitive and creative decline, and how it's expressed at different rates in people.

** The way reputation and power it affords tends to only accumulate with age, and true tragedy strikes when the two are mismatched.

** Whether preference for certain artistic/stylistic choices can be directly linked to patterns of cognitive decline, whether through MRI or other means.

* The hollow center of EU-style (neo)liberalism, and its inevitable decline and fall.

** Whether that is the path followed by every society too rich for its own good, and to what extent.

In all, the fact this is failing so badly is one of the greatest things about 2017 so far.
