Wonder Woman
« on: May 28, 2017, 05:46:07 pm »
Directed by Patty Jenkins from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and executive producer Geoff Johns and screen story by producer Zack Snyder, Heinberg, and Jason Fuchs, the fourth installment in the DC Extended Universe following 2013's Man of Steel and 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Said Taghmaoui, and Ewen Bremner.

The first summer tentpole superhero blockbuster film to be directed by a woman as well as the first female-directed superhero film with a female lead protagonist, the June 2nd release from Warner Bros. sees the title character, an Amazon princess living on the island of Themyscira, meeting American military pilot Steve Trevor when he washes ashore. After learning from him about the ongoing events of World War I, the war to end all wars, she leaves her home for London to bring an early end to the war.

My second-most anticipated film of 2017 (right after Justice League).

My money's on 35%.

Embargo lifts tomorrow.  Will Danny get his first victory in the DC universe thus far?  Tune in tomorrow to find out!

I will say this: the fact that positive reactions on Twitter are actually mostly coming from certified critics, unlike BvS or Suicide Squad, are making hopeful that this will turn out well.

I'm gonna say 71% for now.  I feel like reviews will be considerably better with Snyder not at the director's helm and strong positive reactions on Twitter.  Of course though, I'm not gonna get my hopes up.
Goodbye!

I'd like to think it could go no lower than 50%...but that's exactly what I said about BvS and Suicide Squad so I don't fucking know anymore.

I'm thinking somewhere in the 50% to low 60% range.. It definitely will get higher reviews than DC's other films. Unfortunately it won't cause the superhero bubble to burst, sadly.

As for my own thoughts in the film, I'm having trouble caring for it.

55%. Not gonna have faith in another one of these films after Suicide Squad. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

I will say that if any of these movies are going to break into the "fresh" zone, this one is the most likely to succeed. As bad as it looks, no way does it compare to those awful Justice League trailers (or Aquaman, yuck). Still, most likely scenario is that this starts high and then falls gradually into the rotten range, just like Man of Steel did.

You know what I have to say to that?

I don't see the need for you to call anyone who liked The-Film-That-Must-Not-Be-Named, autistic, and "fanboys". That's actually one of the most bullshit statements I've ever heard. You can't call someone autistic because they liked a film. Also, pretty much all of these points aren't valid at all. They're all hate based insensitive insults, and just, opinions, really. Zack did a good job with Watchmen and Dawn of the Dead. I liked The-Film-That-Must-Not-Be-Named. And before you call me one of "Snyder's simian fans...", I'll have you know, that I barely knew anything about the guy before MoS was released, other than the director of Watchmen and 300. Even after I watched it, the only movies of his I watched were Watchmen and DotD. All his other films look like crap, or mediocre. (300 looks like fun, though) I mainly have faith in this film due to those two other films I watched that were directed by him, and the screenwriter. Now, even as a so called "fanboy" of MoS, even I have to admit, the quality of Goyer's writing was very... questionable. Frankly, after watching TDK trilogy, I was disappointed with his script. He still comes up with good ideas and crafts great concepts/stories, but man, his writing has been very off lately. They've replaced him (Thank God) with Chris Terrio, writer for Argo. As you may know, Argo won an Oscar for that script, and Best Picture to go along with it. In other aspects, like I have said before, I think Zack can direct fine, and while the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman concerns me, I don't really worry about anyone else in the cast. Jesse has been nominated by the Academy for Best Actor, Ben's acting was good in The Towne and great in Argo, I'm highly anticipating his performance in Gone Girl (I thought the trailer showcased his great acting ability perfectly, and I'm sure with an amazing director like David Fincher at the helm, he'll land a nomination for Best Actor), and Henry Cavill, I actually did like him as Superman. He's the spitting image of Christopher Reeve, and I found his performance as Clark Kent pretty good, mainly because I found it to be very close to the ideal Superman in real life. He's no Golden Globe winner, but he's definitely not as questionable as Gadot. Jeremy Irons.. Really? Do I have to explain his insane acting chops? Triple Crown of Acting, Academy Award (for film), Emmy Award (for television), and a Tony award (for theater). I'm glad Goyer is back where he belongs (in the story department) as he's still quite good in that department.
All in all, I'm aware my speculations, predictions, and hopes for this movie can be completely wrong, as we'll all just have to wait and see. For me, it looks promising enough. Just a little reminder, your speculations and predictions for this movie have a chance of being completely wrong too. Stop judging it as if you already have seen it. You never know until the final product is released.
goodbye!
