UEFA Euro 2016

So does anyone wanna discuss?

I know Paasche likes soccer.  Tommy South loved soccer back when he was alive.  I think Neville might like soccer, though Russia just lost.

If not then tell me.  I'll delete this thread.

Paying more attention to Copa America personally, but I'm still liking how competitive Euros have been, lot of close games even in ones that should be one sided (Iceland v. Portugal was a draw lol).

I pay no attention to Copa America after US embarrassed Costa Rica.

That Iceland/Portugal game was a shocker.  I left thinking it'd end 7-0 for Portugal.  Came back at the end and saw 1-1.  Ronaldo's got some 'splainin' to do.  But good for Iceland.  First game of their's in Euro and they actually can make it to the next round.

Russia on the other hand... Idk how you have possession of the ball for like 60% of the game and still lose.

I was working while that game happened, but my brother watched and he said it seemed like Portugal was absolutely going to destroy them (like Brazil-Haiti in Copa America) and it just never happened. Portugal really should be better- they still have a ton of talent. I love a good underdog though, so I'm hoping Iceland can somehow make it to the next round.

Why'd that US-Costa Rica game make you give up on Copa? They played well which was pretty cool lol. The team actually has a good chance to advance too- Ecuador seems pretty beatable to me.

My favorite match is tomorrow.  Germany vs Poland.  It's like WW2 all over.  And the Germans will mercilessly destroy the Poles.

Iceland's gonna do something big.  I'm sure they'll be much like US during the World Cup: do exceptionally well against teams they shouldn't but finally be put down by a team that won't play any games.

And my thing with Copa America is that a lot of the games seem to be high scoring.  I just checked some of their matches and damn... Argentina scored 3.  Ecuador scored 4.  Hell.. even Uruguay scored 3.  Games just lose suspense when that happens.  Nothing like a last minute goal to absolutely light up my house with screams.

I mean, sure, a lot of the games have been pretty high scoring I guess but honestly I think it's more entertaining that way. The only time I don't enjoy soccer is when it feels like neither team is ever going to score. Plus, I just love watching Argentina lol.

I appreciate those games.  Because every time the offense gets closer to the goal, you get this sense that someone is gonna win.  And when they score, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL!  It's literally one of the best moments a man can have.

Oh well, we are used to low expectations for our team, so that happens. A lot of us expected the opening game with England to go the same way you expected Iceland-Portugal to go, and so celebrated the last-minute goal that drew the game. Otherwise, most of the interest is, predictably, drawn to games featuring Eastern European teams, like the Ukraine-Germany game, or the upcoming Polish one.

Also, I always find it weird all the British subregions (including Gibraltar) get their own national teams, but the only other European country with the same privilege is Denmark (Faroe Islands team). I suppose now the constant British whining to compete in Eurovision as England, Scotland, Wales & NI (so that they could also all vote for each other) begins to make more sense.

Last minute goals are definitely some of the most exciting things in sports, no doubt about it.

But fuck Germany, Argentina's where it's at, any team with Messi and my boy Di Maria is bound to be fun to watch.

Messi is not human.

Seriously, he can't be. And have you seen his face? He's got the face of a pizza delivery man, not a superstar soccer player.

For real, the dude looks like an average Joe, is 5 foot 7 and somehow is just absolutely magic on the field.Absolutely incredible player and so fun to watch (especially when he's playing for Barca).

I knew this one foreign exchange Brazilian kid who said during the World Cup he shook Messi's hand.  Luckiest kid at my school.

Meanwhile, I am going to Munich in a few years.  Hoping to see Mueller.

I don't that my country's team is gonna make it that far into Copa America. We are struggling pretty heavily and the previous DT, Sampaoli, which was probably the best DT we ever had, left recently.

Just watched Spain-Turkey game. I started when the score was already 3-0, and my brother kept expecting the Spaniards to score another goal, but the Turks ultimately held out (out of shame, I guess).

Also, the Germany-Poland game apparently ended as a disappointing draw. I have a feeling shared Teutonic honor might get salvaged in a better-then-expected Austrian performance tomorrow, though.

Damn my tendency to rely on current standings.  I knew that Belgium was a much better team, but I caved to Ireland because they were doing better.  Now the standings seem to be adjusted about right.
