Get Ready for some Blasphemy:
1. The Thing (1984)
2. Alien
3. Evil Dead 2
4. In the Mouth of Madness
5. Dawn of the Dead (78)
6. Poltergeist
7. Prince of Darkness (would be higher with a strong lead - say, one Kurt Russell.)
8. From Beyond/Re-animator (tie)
9. Black Christmas (74)
10. Exorcist (wait for it...) 3

Honorable mentions Bride of Frankenstein, Vampyr, The Shining, Masque of the Red Death, Day of the Dead (85), Hellraiser, etc.

Nice to see From Beyond and Day of the Dead '85 mentioned. Love those movies. Day is my favorite of the original Dead Trilogy.

I don't know where to start. For a person who claims to not be a big horror fan, there are plenty on my top 100. I don't think I can do it that without leaving thins off.

I've been slowly grabbing my movie reviews from the other board and bringing them here, but I might follow your lead and link to RT...I'm just worried that eventually the entire thing will break over there...

Day is pretty damn underrated, and by far the darkest of the originals. Probably would have made the top 10, except I was trying to exclude franchise doubles.

I prefer Dawn still, but I'm surprised at how little attention Day gets generally.  It's a great film.

I think it has a pretty devoted following among fans, but a lot of people don't really know about it. Now that it's on Netflix, I hope more people see it and like it. The remake(if you even want to call it one) was atrocious though.
