Jesus, it's April already. I gotta step up my game.
Iíve lost count of all the Netflix releases from 2018. Not sure how many of them are worth it. Muteís trailer wasnít particularly enticing and the reviews were a bit of a deal breaker as well.

I wonder if theyíll put Annihilation on US Netflix soon.

I still haven't seen Annihilation - but it's one of the top of my 2018 films that I've missed - so it's first in line to be streamed when I get the chance...

Iím definitely curious to hear your thoughts. I personally thought it was uneven but still a very rewarding experience. Try to go in blind.

I will.  I'm knee-deep in this MCU marathon now - trying to get them all re-watched before Infinity War.  So I'll try to see it after that...

Jesus, it's April already. I gotta step up my game.

Wait you've seen 1 movie all year and it's some obscure sci fi film?  Come on Rupert!  Go see A Quiet Place.

I've been so busy with schoolwork, fraternity, and the newspaper that I haven't had a chance to go to the theater since Star Wars. That's why I'm basically limited to Netflix originals for 2018 releases, at least until they release digitally. I really want to see A Quiet Place though. I am trying to get permission to write movie reviews for the paper though. That'll give me reason to get out to the theater.

That would be awesome.  If so, it would be nice if they covered the movie ticket.  How's fraternity life?  I had the option, but avoided it when I went to school.  Always wondered if I missed out...

I go to a very small school, so fraternities are a huge part of the social scene around here. If youíre not in one, thereís not a ton of stuff going on. I also love being a part of the brotherhood and just hanging out with everyone. It was a great fit for me and Iím so happy I joined, but I feel like it depends on the individual as to whether everyone would enjoy it.

Yeah - I was in Southern California - so it probably wasn't anything close to the college climate you are experiencing.  Sounds like you are in some small Northeast town or something like that.  Where I was, the majority of students were NOT in a frat.  I was recruited after they saw my elite Sloshball skills, but after much thought I declined to rush.

I go to school in Virginia, but honestly it's barely different than those Northeast schools. Liberal arts and all that. Here I think 50% of the students are part of Greek life. I had to look up Sloshball, it seems awesome haha.

Oh I love Virgina...and North Carolina - that whole part of the East Coast is gorgeous - doesn't get TOO crazy hot/humid for 3 month stretches like Florida or Georgia, but doesn't get consistently in the negatives in winter like New York and higher.

Yeah Sloshball was pretty great.  Not sure if it's still played.  When I played, it was part of a pre-rush frat promotion - it was basically a meet & greet plus recruiting because the frats have to recruit members more than the members solicit frats where I went.  After the game, I had 3 separate frats try to get me to rush.  2 of them were really cool, the other was kind of douchy.  But I was enjoying living in the co-ed dorms and banging every chick that let me.

Yeah it's similar here in terms of the frats recruiting the members. Our pre rush events were pretty similar, we had a spin the wheel night where every section of the wheel was something ridiculous. First I landed on 4 shots of fireball, then smoke an entire cigarette through my nose, then snort a line of tabasco. It was hard to wake up for class the next morning.

Yeah, not sure if you'd like Mute, but I'm hopefully going to post a full review on Letterboxd within a couple of days.

I really want to see Annihilation, hopefully Netflix will release it soon.

From what I've heard, guys who rushed other fraternities had it a lot worse than that. I also didn't have to do it if I didn't want to, they made that clear from the start.

For the record, this isn't that uncommon. We did all our "pledging" stuff after we had already been accepted, signed bids, and gone through intiation, so anything you didn't feel comfortable doing you could just opt out of.

Gotcha - yeah it wasn't that way back when I went.  Though I didn't go through the process, I heard stories of "rush week" and the things that pledges had to do to be accepted.  And it wasn't something you could opt out of and still be accepted.  Sometimes things change for the better...

Seeing Isle of Dogs this weekend.  Thoroughbreds isn't going to make it to our local theater.  I'd have A Quiet Place above Paddington 2, but I'd definitely have Black Panther at the bottom of those 3 that I've seen.
