Littlefinger is my favorite character.  I respect his cunningness.  I'd betray Ned Stark as well.
He's one of my favorites. Like Diego said, he only gets more interesting as the show goes along.

His obsession with Cat is endlessly fascinating. By the time we meet him, he doesn't even really love her anymore; he's just invested so much time into obsessing over her that he feels like she's a goal he needs to attain. He's a warped and twisted guy, but in deeply realistic ways.

He's a man committed to an idea, and he'll stop at nothing to make that idea happen. How the Cat situation relates to Sansa is also fascinating. His whole story in season 4 might be my favorite of the show.

I'm currently rewatching the series over from the beginning with my parents. My mom is starting to like this, I think. Her favorite character is Arya too.

However, I'd been wanting to rewatch this with an open mind in order to attempt to like Daenerys more. As of The Ghost of Harrenhal, it is not working. I cannot fathom why anyone likes this character, or why Martin even included her in the series to begin with. She adds nothing to the story.

Let's see... what has Dany done thus far to earn our respect? (SPOILERS AHEAD)

- Starts off as her brother's slave, essentially, and is sold off to a guy who looks like a car mechanic. At this point, the character is legitimately sympathetic and has obstacles to overcome.
- Learns how to sexually please the car mechanic and falls in love with him. Great feminist message.
- Allows the car mechanic to kill her brother. This was her best decision. It's also the point where her story goes downhill.
- Disrespects the culture of the people she has come to rule. Refuses to allow them to pillage a city (which, by the way, they are only doing because she needs gold to go to Westeros).
- Saves three women in the town that's being pillaged. Weren't there hundreds more who were being raped, all because of her? And what about the huts being burned down? That's all on her.
- Takes in a witch lady to care for her husband's wounds.
- Witch lady kills her baby; renders her husband comatose. Dany is not an excellent judge of character, it seems.
- Suffocates her husband. Emotionally powerful scene. Too bad it was all her fault.
- Tells her remaining followers that they are free now. Dozens desert her.
- Burns witch lady at the stake and hatches some dragons in the fire. How she knew she could do that is, to show viewers, unclear. She also sits in the bonfire all night for some reason. The scene is very poorly executed.
- In season two, she marches her people to the middle of nowhere and they begin to starve.
- Sends riders out in all directions to find civilization. One returns decapitated. One of many subjects Dany would go on to fail.
- Finds a city to bring her people to. Yells and whines at the city's leaders outside the gates. Refuses to show them her dragons, for... some reason. They decide not to let her in.
- Guy vouches for her and lets her in, not for her skills at diplomacy, but because he wants to bang her. So I guess we've found one thing she's good at.

(Let it be known that, at this point, Dany has demonstrated no leadership skills whatsoever. But Jorah gives an impassioned speech here about how she should rule the fucking world. As usual, it does not make her look any better. It just makes him look like a retard who's thinking with his dick.)

- Goes to a dinner party.
- Begs rich people for money to buy ships. Her rudeness puts them off. They refuse (and rightly so).
- Comes back to find her people slaughtered and her dragons stolen. She has now failed to protect pretty much everyone who has followed her. Please, tell me... why should we trust her with power, again?

If anyone has some insights here, now is the time. The fact that this character is considered a hero is incomprehensible to me. Is it just 'cause she's a lady? There are plenty of interesting, well-developed, intelligent female characters in this story. She is not one of them. Is it because of the dragons? I don't think so. GoT fans can't be dumb enough to fall in love with this character solely because of good CGI... can they? Or is it because we see her titties in the first episode?

This rewatch is only making me hate her more.

Alright, I'll watch Season One.  If that season could convince you to watch it all, maybe it'll be the same for me.

Update: Still haven't seen past Season 1.  I tried, guys.

Lame. Tyrion's story becomes epic in Season 2. Though the awfulness of Daenerys kind of balances it out...
