Ty Simpkins' character from Jurassic World, Gray, was initially written in Derek Connolly & Colin Trevorrow's initial screenplay as having autism. This character trait was removed from the final draft of the script.

In regards to the graphic and over-the-top death scene of Katie McGrath's character Zara in Jurassic World, director Colin Trevorrow had this to say: "It was the first time a woman was going to die in a Jurassic Park movie. We're an equal opportunities bunch of murderers! So we felt, 'All right, let's make it the most spectacular death we can possibly imagine. Let's involve multiple animals from sea and air.' The earned death in these movies has become a bit standard and another thing I wanted to subvert. 'How can we surprise people? Let's have someone die who just doesn't deserve to die at all.'"

An unfilmed scene in Jurassic World would have involved the Indominus rex being startled by an animatronic T. rex at the park and subsequently tearing its head off. Executive producer Steven Spielberg objected to the scene because he believed it would be disrespectful to the late Stan Winston for suggesting that CGI dinosaurs are better than animatronics.

John Hughes originally wrote the script for Home Alone 3 during production on Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The story once again revolved around Kevin McCallister, who would now be a teenager. But when Macaulay Culkin was no longer interested in playing the character again, Hughes rewrote the entire script from scratch.

Police Academy was originally scripted as a gritty thriller about police corruption. When Steve Guttenberg was cast, he did a ride along with police officers to prep for the film. The ride along went sideways when the officer driving accidentally ran over a child. According to lore, the studio pulled Gutenberg out immediately and paid the officers $10,000 each to forget their star was in the vehicle. Production on the film shut down for three weeks as it was hastily rewritten to be more of a wacky comedy. It didn't look like it was going to fly until they got a huge break when Michael Winslow discovered he was a natural at the sound effects in the revised script.

Peter Jackson attempted to remake King Kong before in 1996 after Universal liked the dailies for The Frighteners. Jackson was set to direct from a screenplay he wrote with Fran Walsh, and Robert Zemeckis was attached as an executive producer. The script's tone was compared to that of Stephen Sommers' reboot of The Mummy and it would've starred Kate Winslet as Ann Darrow (who would now be an archaeologist), George Clooney as Jack Driscoll (who would be an ex-fighter pilot), and Robert De Niro as Carl Denham. But when Universal saw that Disney and TriStar were remaking Mighty Joe Young and Godzilla respectively, they pulled the plug on the project. Jackson eventually got the chance to revisit the project after the success of the Lord of the Rings films and started the script over from scratch.
