Book Club > Solo

Were thinking of seeing that today, but theater was beyond capacity.  We have a ton of old folks in our town - so movies like this tend to do really, really well around here.  We'll have to wait a few weeks before it clears out a little.

I saw it in a packed theater and it was nothing but old people.  Was definitely the youngest one in there by like 50 years.  Thought I walked into a retirement home.

Yeah that's what it looked like when we walked in there after Solo - 15 minutes before it started and ONLY the front 2 rows available.  I was like "no fucking way".  So we went and saw A Quiet Place for a second time (which ironically is the movie we paid for in the first place when we went to see Solo).

I was forced to sit in the 2nd row but I didn't mind because the chairs lean back pretty far in the front rows.  It's nice that my theater understands how awful the front row is and is at least trying to make it more tolerable.
Goodbye!

Easy Rider is a solid film. Sometimes meanders too much for its own good, but the film works as a time capsule for countercultural ideas and has some great performances (particularly from Nicholson) and a killer soundtrack. Going with a B.

I realistically only have time for about one or two more movies on my sisterís account thing. Iím thinking of going with On the Waterfront and Guess Whoís Coming to Dinner (or Rebel Without a Cause).

Stripes was a pretty bad film, but definitely elevated by a charming cast.

I loved the scene where Alma set up the nice dinner. It was very well acted. Krieps held her own for sure.

Well, at least Solo was better than Rogue One.

Was I alone in finding the Kessel sequence to be the most tedious part of the film? It was watchable but I was least invested then (partially because I still prefer the implication that Han was just making stuff up to Obi-Wan in Episode 4).

Couldnít really get into Rebel Without a Cause. Thereís some very strong performances (particularly from Dean and Munro) but aside from a handful of strong scenes I was, for lack of a better word, I engaged with most of the film, and didnít find the characters to be all that multifaceted. Thinking around a C/C+.

The hubcap scene sold me.

Also, I never much cared for this one either.

I agree 100%. I think the third act is the best part of the film. And also that they definitively answer the "Han shot first" debate.

I was also very partial to the scenes where the dad from The Witch gets blown up by his truck trailer that flies off into the wind and then falls directly onto his truck, as well as the vortex with rag doll CGI.

The King of Comedy was good, pretty prescient look at celebrity. Also finally understand Rupe's name so that's cool.
