So, it seems like I am the first person here to have watched The House with the Clock in its Walls. I went in with no expectations, and actually liked it quite a lot, settling on about a 7/10. Sure, some things are weirdly done (the climax in particular appears to have been adapted a bit too faithfully from the book), but on the whole, I liked it more than MI:6

I've seen it as well.  It's fine, nothing special.

Venom is hilarious.
Would you consider it the best so bad it's good experience of 2018?

Venom is hilarious.

The world is waking up.

That is certainly true here, where Venom has also been greeted coldly

The main reason scores are somewhat higher than on Metacritic, etc. is because our critics are still forced to assess this relative to our output like the infamous "Guardians". At the same time, many comments on various reviews asked why Venom is being treated harsher than the Infinite War, etc. A pity that the website itself still has that lame "critic superhero" logo, though. Hope they'll change it soon enough.

Meanwhile, this appears to be a season where our critics as a whole again appear inclined to demonstrate how their opinion on Western films diverges from those of RT.

(though most reviews are still 8/10)

(while here most are 5/10)

meanwhile

Venom is hilarious.

The world is waking up.

It's like a really bad, dated superhero movie from 2001, except it's centered around a batshit insane Tom Hardy performance where he spends the entire time acting twitchy, talking to himself, doing four accents at once, making out with alien goo, and being called a loser by said alien goo.  The first 30 minutes are boring as hell, but it doesn't take long after that for it to become hilarious.

I can't bring myself to give it a negative score, even though it's not even close to a good movie.
Goodbye!

A Simple Favor was quite good and The Hate U Give was very good, bordering on great at times (although it does have a few moments of heavyhandedness).

Rewatched Anti-birth.  Liked it as much as I did the first time, great ending.  Maybe my favourite film from 2016 (though that was a bad year).

Also saw the new Star is Born, was okay.  Not bad, not great.  Some of the writing was kinda mediocre.

Free Solo is a pretty solid documentary. It covers a lot of themes surrounding its subject  in a concise amount of time and is consistently gripping. Easily the best documentary about mountains this year and the best 2018 film with ďSoloĒ in the title.

Finally got The Silence of the Lambs off my cinematic bucket list. I think it might be perfect; all the elements come together in such an extraordinary manner. The final act is some of the most intense cinematic material Iíve seen in a while.

Rewatched Fantastic Mr. Fox today, which holds up quite well. I think GBH and Moonrise Kingdom are better but itís still a wonderful experience all these years later.
