I'm glad Annihilation exists as a movie but I didn't enjoy it much at all if we're being honest.

The first twenty five minutes are a bit clunky, i'll give you that. Thoughts on the climax?

I felt that the characters and dialogue were both rather uninteresting and wooden which certainly hurt the majority of the movie. Some of the ideas and climax were interesting (particularly visually; the movie is really creative on that front), but honestly the film had lost me at that point and I was mostly just struggling to stay awake.

Upgrade was a fun watch. Some of its thematic elements cover familiar ground and the overall plot hinges mostly on convolution, but those action scenes are to die for and discount Tom Hardy gave a solid performance that yields a lot of self-aware moments. Probably a B.

I was really baked during that film, but I kept saying to the wife "man Tom Hardy looks young in this movie" even though I knew it wasn't him.  I hope LMG stars with Hardy in a movie at some point.  All that being said, I absolutely loved the film - especially the ending - strong 9/10 from me.

I liked the short that played before Incredibles 2 more than the film itself.

I didn't really need to see The Danny Oh Family History tbh.

The first Incredibles is still much better than the second tbh.

The Death of Stalin was pretty great. It relies more on straightforward gallows humor and more subtle cringe comedy than your normal studio comedy gags, which works quite well in its favor. The ensemble is terrific, particularly Buscemi and Beale, and the film achieves the perfect balance between poking fun and soberly presenting the horrors of the regime. Definitely either a B+ or an A-.

I'm not old - I'm young at heart - and I put you bitches 20 years younger than me to shame when you're out here going to bed early and waking up late.  Hell Frank is the only one who can stay up as late as I do - and I'm STILL the first one up in the morning.  So put that in your pipe and smoke it LOL!!!!!

From a completely neutral standpoint it's somewhat amusing that the only part you saw fit to refute was the part about being old.

Would you say that one’s enjoyment of the film hinge more from liking the director or from enjoying unabashed shlock?

I really miss the late 2000s trend of fast-talking comedies with smart-sounding, likable characters. Re-watched Up in the Air last night and still think it's a pretty great film, really unfortunate how Jason Reitman's career fell off; he had a really great stretch to start with Thank You for Smoking (brilliant, in my opinion), Juno (unpopular on this sub, and the worst of the three, but still good) and Up in the Air. Movie has a great script, it's super watchable, and the cast is great. I forget how amazing Clooney's screen presence is too. Probably still a 9/10.

Watched Adventureland after, which I hadn't seen and really enjoyed that as well. Jesse Eisenberg is so awesome in roles that suit him, and the characters in this movie are incredibly likable and relatable (even Kristen Stewart, which is certainly a testament to the script). I dunno, I've watched a lot of movies like this lately  (Easy-A, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Adventureland, 500 Days of Summer, Up in the Air) and while some are better than others I really love the general style. Probably an 8/10. Hit me up with any recommendations like these though.

The director’s latest film Tully came out this year. I missed it when it was in theaters but I remember that Dylan liked it.

True, forgot that was Reitman actually. That came to our local theater but left just before I got home, unfortunately. I'll definitely check it out when it comes out on DVD though.

I got into Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom for free last night, and I still wanted my money back. Holy shit, I haven't been that enraged by a movie in years.
