Finished Breaking Bad... and that was pretty depressing.  I liked how Badger and Skinny Pete were brought back and the entire episode felt somber.  Walt watching his son exit the bus, knowing he will never see him again.  The depressing moment when Walt seeing Jesse essentially turned into a slave and their last look at each other knowing that it's finally over.  I got flashbacks to when they first met and was a little sad.  Shows really haven't done this to me before.  It's strange.  I had despised Walt for a majority of the season, but seeing him dying alone in the mountains was depressing and made me feel bad.  I hated the egotistical Walter but seeing him stripped of that really made me sad.

Great show.  Sucks that it's finished and I still prefer the ending to Season 4 (which was the best season of the show.  Gustavo was such a fun villain).  I felt like that would've concluded the show on a morally ambiguous, but much happier note tbh.
How amazing is his last scene with Skylar though? "I did it for me" gives me chills.

It was a great moment, but a little too on the nose.  I think I'd have preferred if he didn't outright say it, but just hinted at it.  But I still thought the scene was effective at making you feel a little empathy for Walt, despite him being the most despicable character in the show.

I thought his last scene with Jesse was much more effective at communicating the emotions, though.  I'm sure Jesse had mixed emotions about Walt's death, but it doesn't outright tell us how Jesse felt.
goodbye!

I dunno, I think it's powerful to hear Walt fully and explicitly recognize what we've known for a while; at a certain point he stopped doing it for the family, and instead kepy going because "I was alive". Powerful sentiment in my opinion.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. THE PUNISHER IS LITERALLY THE BEST THING EVER TO COME OUT OF THE MCU. THIS SHOW IS LEGITIMATELY AMAZING ON ITS OWN, EVEN WHEN ENTIRELY DISREGARDING ITS SOURCE MATERIAL AND THE UNIVERSE AROUND IT.

I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised when they got a person from Hannibal to run the show, but still. Just, there's real craft in everything. The cinematography, the acting (Jon Bernthal is sorely underrated), the themes, there's real depth and it has something to say about relevant issues that plague our world. It has surprisingly poignant social commentary for a show that has to do with superheroes. I wouldn't even call it a show about that, it's about as grounded as you can get. Honestly, there's pretty much zero resemblance to the rest of the MCU, it's really its own universe. There's no forced connections or Easter eggs.

Guys, if you're already a fan of the MCU's Netflix work, PLEASE, don't miss it. And if you haven't seen a single comic book related show, well... this is a great place to start. The perfect place IMO. Really the only place to stay at too, because everything else is dogshit compared to it. Even Daredevil Season 1. (probably not Legion though, can't say for sure because I haven't watched it yet)

I'd wager that even Diego, the biggest hater of everything and anything superhero/comic book related, would at least find something to enjoy in it.

Watch. This. Series.

The Punisher is the only other piece of comic book related media I have seen, next to The Dark Knight Trilogy and Raimiís Spider-Man films, to truly transcend its roots and become something greater, entirely on its own.

This show is amazing guys. WATCH IT.

Sorry, I just finished the show when I made that last post.

I think youíd like it though, Caleb. The cinematography is similar to Mr. Robotís.

Haha, it's all good I can totally understand wanting people to watch something you loved. Honestly, I haven't seen any of the Marvel TV shows and already have a bunch of stuff I want to watch so I dunno, but it's encouraging that you liked it so much. Any reason you think the reviews for this show weren't so great though?

The Punisher isn't that good, Danny.

The first like 8 episodes are almost a slog to get through. Then it picks up in the latter half. It's not compelling whatsoever and there's almost too much plot but also not enough plot. Kinda not that great honestly.

Honestly, the best reason I can come up with is that people were expecting a much more action oriented, faster paced story.

Because, like Frank said, admittedly the show is slower than youíd expect. But I personally found that engrossing rather than a slog. It takes the time to explore Frankís psyche, and covers a lot of relevant social topics like the PTSD veterans have to deal with after coming back from war, how they adjust to society coming back, and even gun control to an extent (which is ironic, considering the character weíre talking about here, but they do address that)

An entire character is meant to be an example of how veterans suffer and end up snapping. I mean, thereís so much more but I donít wanna spoil anything.

The acting is great, especially Bernthalís performance as The Punisher. He legitimately deserves an Emmy for it IMO. The cinemtography is excellent, like I said, it closely resembles Mr. Robotís precise framing and it really helps pull you in. And while itís not always violent as youíd expect a show about The Punisher to be, the action thatís there (and I mean thereís already enough IMO) is really well done. Some hardcore, brutal stuff. Especially in the final episodes.

Furthermore, the extra time they take to develop the characters, show extra dimensions and make you feel for them really pays off IMO. The writingís pretty great too, especially the dialogue in certain places. Thereís a couple emotional moments that got me, and a couple really funny moments that made me break out in laughter.

I feel like Iím not articulating it well enough, and Iím not listing enough reasons for why I personally dug the hell out of it so much, but regardless this is why Iíd recommend the show.

Also, if you (like me) are intrigued by the plot material, then thatís another reason you might wanna check it out.

Watched the first episodes of The Crown, The Handmaidís Tale, The Punisher, and Dirk Gently. All of them were really good, especially The Handmaidís Tale.
Everything is terrible.

Also last night (slash earlier this morning), I finished Stranger Things season 2. The episode with Eleven in Chicago wasn't very good, but the other episodes more than made up for it. Great stuff.
Everything is terrible.

The Crown

This is actually a pretty excellent show.

All right, I finished season 2 of this thing. And I've gotta say... for a show aimed primarily at 50-year-old women, it's highly watchable. I can't claim to give a shit about the royals, their personal drama, or Britain in general honestly, but the acting in this is just fucking spot-on. Matt Smith, who I was completely prepared to hate, absolutely nails Prince Philip. He's just the right mix of infuriating narcissism and comic relief, plus he captures the guy's darker side perfectly, including a really touching episode about the family tragedies he endured when he was a kid. Plus his family was full of Nazis, so he's somewhat torn between two worlds. Seeing character development as complex as this outside of Game of Thrones was awesome.

Claire Foy is also really good. Not to overdo it on the GoT comparisons, but her performance is kind of the angle they should've taken with Daenerys. Foy pulls off a stoic, restrained character and still manages to make her sympathetic, and the moments when she lets her temper get the better of her are much more memorable for it. Really, the only low point in the acting so far has been the guy who played JFK in that one episode. Like... either you cast based on looks, or you cast someone who can do a good impression of him, but for God's sake, at least get one right. That guy was terrible. Fortunately the woman playing Jackie made up for it.

Supposedly they're planning to keep this show going for several seasons, with new actors and actresses playing Elizabeth and Philip. I'm not sure I'm invested enough in the story to watch it without these two actors, but I'll probably give it a try. Solid 7.5 to 8/10 show.

‪Well... I finally finished all of Breaking Bad.‬

‪What an excellent show. Vince Gillian is a goddamn genius.‬
Wait, you finished it in like 3 weeks? Damn, Daniel.

Great show though, obviously, and I'm glad you liked it.

John watched Mr. Robot Seasons 1&2 in 2 days so he'd finish Breaking Bad in less than 5 days at that pace.  Danny ain't special.
