Review of THE CIRCLE
« on: July 06, 2017, 05:27:12 pm »
I've put this in the streaming section as here in the UK, it popped up as a Netflix Original.

I know that my enthusiasm for this film isn't shared but why the hate?

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'll be watching it soon. Now to be fair, I should disclose that I read the book, and I found it to be absolutely horribly written. Bland characters, robotic dialogue, and an obvious message that repeatedly smacks you over the head.

The film might be different, but I don't see how it could be a significant improvement when the source material is as bad as it is here. I have a special hate in my heart for movies that I agree with ideologically but cannot enjoy given how poorly the argument is presented.

I thought the premise of this film was fairly interesting but the negative reception turned me off. Interesting topic for the current time though.

I haven't read the book, but I heard the ending is somewhat different from the book's.

Don't expect an improvement since author Dave Eggers helped director James Ponsoldt with writing the screenplay.
Everything is terrible.

Thanks guys.

I'd never heard if the book and knew very little of the film prior to its Netflix appearance last week so helpfully I had no preconceived ideas.
