Stranger Things 2
« on: November 01, 2017, 01:14:05 am »
Just watched the first episode. It doesn't really recapture the thrill of the original season, but it's entertaining enough. I'm hoping it picks up fast.

A few of you guys have seen this, right? I've heard episode 7 is terrible for some reason. Is that true?

Only seen the first episode, which I really liked.
Everything is terrible.

I find myself never being able to get invested in TV shows, but I did watch the first 5 episodes of Stranger Things and really liked them.  Maybe Iíll finish it one of these days.

I was gonna lay into you because you gave Geostorm an 8/10, but then I realized that I was kinda the same way before I watched Breaking Bad and now I watch far more TV than film. Like, almost all network TV is garbage, but some of the serialized cable and streaming dramas now are pretty amazing.

Alright, I finished Season 2. It's... okay. Just okay. I never thought it would be as good as the first season, and given how lukewarm my expectations were, I'd say this met them fairly well. I think they doubled down on the cheese factor in this season, but the characters are still lovable and the story is interesting.

However... the dialogue this season took a significant downturn. The choices the characters make are plain stupid, and a lot of their lines come across as forced justifications for their actions.

Millie Bobby Brown is wonderful, as always. Her solo episode was terrible though, but that wasn't even remotely her fault. The kid playing Lucas became a better actor this season. I just wish they'd give Will something to do aside from have seizures.

Spoiler (hover to show)

Overall, something like a 6.5/10.

The season would have absolutely benefited if they switched around Episodes 6 and 7.

That actually would have worked really well. 7 is still bad, but if it was used to leave us in suspense about what was happening in the meantime, that would've made it feel a lot more consequential.
