I've also been watching The Crown since my mom loves it. It's really well-acted, even if it's about a subject I've never really cared about. John Lithgow as Churchill is great.

I haven't watched any of their TV shows, but with regards to movies I thought Beasts of No Nation was one of 2015's best films.
