Acrimony (2018)

Writer/Director: Tyler Perry
Starring: Taraji P. Henson, Lyriq Bent, Jazmyn Simon, Crystle Stewart

Review: "As if the world needed more evidence that most of us won't do anything for as long as writer and director Tyler Perry has royally sucked, Acrimony may offer a commanding central performance from Taraji P. Henson but it's so profoundly ill-conceived and inept in every other department that it's downright embarrassing to watch."

Score: 1/10
Everything is terrible.

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay (2018)

Director: Sam Liu
Writer: Alan Burnett
Starring: Christian Slater, Billy Brown, Liam McIntyre, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Gideon Emery, Tara Strong, Vanessa Williams

Review: "Although closer to its more gritty comic book roots than the live-action DC Extended Universe version, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay is an overlong, poorly animated disappointment that lets down a solid voice cast and a rich variety of characters with childish dialogue and humor, draggy pacing, and blander than bread storytelling."

Score: 4/10
Everything is terrible.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (2018)

Director: Sam Liu
Writer: James Krieg
Starring: Bruce Greenwood, Jennifer Carpenter, Anthony Stewart Head, Scott Patterson

Review: "For a steampunk take on the Dark Knight with a very interesting concept behind it, the execution admittedly leaves quite a bit to be desired (i.e. the way it handles women in the story), but for what it is overall, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is a decently crafted and perfectly serviceable addition to the DC Animated Universe with a solid voice cast and fine-looking animation."

Score: 6/10
Everything is terrible.

Best F(r)iends: Volume One (2018)

Director: Justin MacGregor
Writer: Greg Sestero
Starring: Tommy Wiseau, Greg Sestero, Paul Scheer, Kristen Stephenson Pino, Vince Jolivette

Review: "A delightfully bonkers spiritual successor to Tommy Wiseau's so bad it's good diasterpiece The Room, Best F(r)iends: Volume One sees writer Greg Sestero and director Justin MacGregor attempting to pull off an incredibly weird and quirkily eccentric hybrid of David Fincher, David Lynch, Werner Herzog, and the Coen brothers that doesn't particularly make a whole lot of sense but nonetheless results in a fun experience."

Score: 8/10
Everything is terrible.

The Death of Stalin (2018)

Director: Armando Iannucci
Writers: Armando Iannucci, David Schneider, Ian Martin, Peter Fellows
Starring: Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Paddy Considine, Rupert Friend, Jason Isaacs, Michael Palin, Andrea Riseborough, Jeffrey Tambor

Review: "Another dry, acidic, razor-sharp comedic masterwork from co-writer and director Armando Iannucci following In the Loop and Veep, The Death of Stalin is another shining piece of evidence that he's a genuine master of sociopolitical commentary and satire, with an absolutely stellar cast, a top-notch script, and utterly rich characters."

Score: 10/10
Everything is terrible.

Loveless (2018)

Director: Andrey Zvyagintsev
Writers: Oleg Negin, Andrey Zvyagintsev
Starring: Maryana Spivak, Aleksey Rozin, Matvey Novikov, Marina Vasilyeva, Andris Keišs

Review: "The most appropriately titled film of the year, Loveless is quite possibly one of the most bleak, depressing, and emotionally exhausting films I've ever seen in my life, and I mean that in the very best way possible, with breathtaking cinematography, commanding direction, spectacular performances throughout, and great storytelling from start to finish."

Score: 10/10
Everything is terrible.

Flower (2018)

Director: Max Winkler
Writers: Alex McAulay, Matt Spicer, Max Winkler
Starring: Zoey Deutch, Kathryn Hahn, Tim Heidecker, Adam Scott, Joey Morgan, Dylan Gelula

Review: "Flower doesn't quite stick the landing when it comes to its uneven third act and jarring tonal shifts but there's enough good in it, such as a terrific central performance from Zoey Deutch, that it manages to come out a solid, intriguingly told, well-put together coming-of-age comedy."

Score: 7/10
Everything is terrible.

Ready Player One (2018)

Director: Steven Spielberg
Writers: Ernest Cline, Eric Eason, Zak Penn
Starring: Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, Mark Rylance, Lena Waithe, Hannah John-Kamen, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki, Susan Lynch, Ralph Ineson, Letitia Wright, McKenna Grace, Lulu Wilson, Perdita Weeks, Clare Higgins

Review: "Another Steven Spielberg-directed adaptation of a popular novel that, like Jaws and Jurassic Park before it, takes liberties with the source material but all for the better, Ready Player One represents arguably one of the most spectacular visual extravaganzas in quite some time as well as the grandfather of blockbuster filmmaking's most purely delightful film in years, with breathtaking effects, energetic action sequences, fun and charming characters, terrific performances, a great sense of humor, smooth pacing, and solid storytelling that's jam-packed with pop culture references and nostalgia but used in a way where it works as a wonderful tool as opposed to an unfortunate handicap."

Score: 9/10
Everything is terrible.

Seeing this on Tuesday - can't wait honestly.  You think the 3D in this would be worth it?

I saw it in 2D.

I figured - but does it look like it has 3D aspects that would be interesting?  I mean, you can kind of tell sometimes.
