...and decided to play it.  Holy crap, I forgot how good it was.  Great plotline, flawless gameplay, great characterization, and the option to choose what you say is ingenious.  What are your guys thoughts on it?  It's probably one of my favorite games of all time.
Goodbye!

The first Mass Effect bored the crap outta me - so I never made it to the second one.

I liked the first one, but let me say that Mass Effect 2 improves on absolutely everything.  I was never bored.  It's an amazing game.

disagree - if you're gonna merge RPG and FPS, you better streamline the RPG storyline and mechanics.  I just didn't find it enjoyable.

FPS? LOL!

It's not the gameplay that makes it, it's the story and characters.

I doubt this game is as good as Pokémon: Ruby.

there are FPS elements to the game that most RPGs do not have.  And, if the gameplay isn't good, I'm probably not gonna enjoy it regardless of the story or characters.

In what sense is there a first-person shooter aspect? I'm sorry, but I can't seem to see any of that.

The gameplay in the first was atrocious, but the fact that you haven't played the other two shows that you don't know about the gameplay in them. They changed it radically.

I never said I played the second or third.  If I don't like the first of something in a series, it is very rare I will participate in future offerings for obvious reasons.  I remember quite a bit of shooter action in the game - perhaps it was third person I don't really remember and it doesn't make much of a difference.  My original point was that if you are going to mix a shooter with RPG, then you better streamline the story and make the gameplay strong - and the first Mass Effect failed on both counts in my eyes, which precluded me from going any further.

This is incredibly true.  My only complaint is Mass Effect 3's ending, but why complain about 5 minutes of a trilogy when the rest is amazing?

I never said that you played the second or third. I was merely mentioning that you didn't and because of that you can't disagree with me on the trilogy as a whole. I think the first one is the worst one, so therefore I agree with your sentiments on gameplay. It was one of the worst mechanically made video games.

But damn did they fix that with the other two.

Fair enough - I was disagreeing with the notion of the first being among the best video games ever.
